Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a proven and scientifically recognized method where someone is led into a relaxed, inward focussed, natural brain wave state, to allow access to the subconscious mind. As the brain waves change through the induction, it allows memories, emotions and beliefs to be accessed as the subconscious becomes dominant and particularly active and open to change, as the more analytical and conscious mind deeply relaxes.

  • What does it feel like?

The experience feels different for each person. Some may feel a floating sensation, others may feel sleepy, and most people simply feel totally relaxed and comfortable. It is like when we daydream or are fully absorbed in an activity such as watching a film. There is no right or wrong way to experience it; and what is important to know is that how you feel is not an indicator of how effective it is. Regardless of how it feels – it’s working.

  • Will I remain in control?

This heightened state of mind gives you more control not less, and the hypnotherapist can help you to regain your power. The completely natural state enables inward focus and I will speak to you throughout the session and you can talk to me at any time. You can agree, disagree, move your body, and even get up to go to the bathroom. I cannot (and would not!) make you do anything that you don’t want to do, as your natural protective mechanisms are activated when they sense that something is happening against your will.

  • What If I Go Back To Something That Is Scary Or Painful?

If you go back to scenes from your life that are related to abuse or other trauma, it is important to know that you cannot relive it, but that you are reviewing it from a safe space, like on a screen. I will be with you, guiding and supporting you to express your emotions and release them. You will be ok and we will do it together.

  • Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

Absolutely not - you can’t get stuck in hypnosis, in the same way that you can’t get stuck in a daydream. You have control and will remember everything, including what you saw in your mind, and what we both said throughout. There is a chance you may drift into sleep if you’re deeply relaxed during a remote session and the call accidentally disconnects, however you’d soon notice my voice had stopped and open your eyes again.

  • Is it safe?

Hypnosis has been used as a therapeutic method in medicine, psychiatry, dentistry and psychology throughout the world. The method is shown to bring about fast, effective and long lasting results, without any negative side effects. Given the deeply relaxed state, it can enhance physical and emotional well-being. It is important to note that you should not drive or operate machinery or similar, while listening to hypnosis audio.

  • What if I think I already know the reasons behind my issue?

RTT® is amazing in that even if you think you know the reason, you will see it in a completely different way. It allows you to change the meaning you attached to an event or experience, and ultimately change your beliefs. Many clients go back to totally different scenes than they expected. Hence, I encourage you to just relax and trust that your subconscious mind will show you exactly what you need to see, feel, hear and review.

  • Why Is RTT So Effective?

A wealth of scientific studies prove the high effectiveness of hypnosis for a wide range of topics. Hypnosis quickly and effectively moves your 'conscious' thinking mind out of the way, allowing us to access what lies beneath in the 'programming' that occurred in your past, often during your childhood. This part of the session is safe regression to past events. We can gain access to the emotions, thoughts, and underlying beliefs that are unknowingly driving your habits, repetitive actions and behaviours; and hence gets to the root cause in a short space of time. Once we understand what’s driving the issue, and due to working with your subconscious mind which allows your imagination and thought processes to become much freer; we can naturally create change more easily, quickly and sustainably.

  • When will I start to see the changes?

Each person is different, and there are typically 3 types of change from RTT:

    • Immediate. You may feel a massive shift right away – immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts and behaviours.

    • Cumulative. You will see consistent, incremental shifts over time.

    • Retroactive. You do not see the shifts right away and then one day you look back and see all of the things that are different in your life.

You must be open to change in order for transformation to occur. By learning how to control our mind and thoughts and telling ourselves a better story, we can lay down new neural pathways, to effect the change we desire.

  • What if I need another session?

RTT is designed to give you powerful breakthroughs and changes in your life. Sometimes, up to 3 cycles can be required for a particular area of focus, due to it’s deep-rooted nature. Some clients wish to continue doing sessions beyond the initial topic, to work on other areas of their life, and to build on the overall impact and change they desire.

  • Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?

Yes, everyone can be hypnotised, given it’s a natural state.

However, it is not recommended that people with epilepsy, as well as people with diagnosed psychotic illnesses (psychosis, schizophrenia, hallucinations, delusions, severe personality disorders) undergo hypnosis.

  • How Long Does A Therapy Session Last?

The hypnosis session can vary depending on what comes up and what is required. It can be as short as 90 minutes, or up to 2.5 or even 3 hours. I ask that you put aside the 3 hours so as not to be rushed.
